About the Educator
Pursuing a career in the field of Art has been a goal of mine since I was a child. I have always had a passion for Art, however it wasn't until high school that I figured out exactly what direction I wanted to take with my artistic abilities. In my final high school year, I took a co-operative education class and spent over 200 hours working with art students and students with exceptionalities in a local middle school. It was this experience that made me realize that sharing my knowledge, skills and passion for art brought me as much joy as creating it. So, it became my new goal to become a teacher so that I could not only share my passion, but also perhaps help students find theirs. With my new found sense of purpose I went on to complete my post secondary degrees at Brock University; graduating in 2013 with a Visual Arts Honours degree and a Minor in Mathematics, and in 2014 completed teachers college and became certified to teach Intermediate/Senior level students.
Following the completion of my education I was hired by the District School Board of Niagara as a RISE Outreach Teacher for the Grimsby Location, working in the field of alternative education. I stayed in this position for a semester until I was hired onto the occasional teacher roster where I remain now, supply teaching for the DSBN. When I am not supply teaching I spend 1 to 2 days a week volunteering in mathematics classrooms at Craig Kielburger Secondary School in Milton, in hopes that I may be able to gain employment in my local board; Halton. Aside from being a teacher and someone who loves being involved in the educational community, I am also: an outdoors enthusiast, an animal lover, a photographer, a gardener, a movie buff, an angler, a snowboarder, an avid reader, an artist, a dancer (when no one is looking), a gym goer, a lover of country music, but most importantly I am, and always will be, a student; taking in as much as I can, not only to expand my own knowledge, but so that I can share what I have learned with others. I strongly believe that the more we know, the better prepared we are for any challenges that life might throw at us, increasing our chances of success. |
