Video conferencing tools were not something that I ever pictured myself using, however, after some research, I can see their potential for classroom application and as a professional development tool. I thoroughly enjoy the idea of using this software professional development, as enrolling in online webinars that allow you to access sessions A) Without having to travel, B) that may otherwise be inaccessible due to live locations, and C) that are at times more convenient for our busy schedules. Aside from using this for PD, some applications within the classroom include:
With this tool, the educator could conference with students to explain assignments, answer questions and teach lessons to individuals and groups of students. When it comes to exploring online tools such as these the number of options available are only limited by your creativity and research time. If there is something a lesson that you feel this software would pair well with, try it, it doesn’t hurt to explore more enrichment and engagement ideas; more to add to your teaching tool belt! Below I have shared some free video conferencing software that I think would work well in the classroom, each with a short description of key features. These are not the only options out there, however as I explored further I found most other options provided most of the same functions, but required added patience and a paid subscription. Hope that you find these tools helpful and use them to enhance student and personal learning!
