I maintain my Commitment to Students and Student Learning by recognizing that every student has different abilities and needs, and thus design or modify my daily lessons to ensure that they are accessible and fair for all students. I understand and am sensitive to factors that influence student learning, and thus practice flexibility in my classroom, allowing students additional time or make up opportunities if unforeseen circumstances should arise.
I demonstrate Leadership In Learning Communities by incorporating collaboration into the daily classroom routine, encouraging an inclusive and supportive learning community. I believe that open and effective communication between students, teachers and parents is important in developing a classroom in which students feel safe and welcome. I strive for Ongoing Professional Learning by: volunteering my time in my local classrooms to gain hands on experience, discussing technology, ideas and lessons with colleagues to gather further insight, and enrolling in Additional Qualifications and Professional Development to broaden my knowledge base. I strongly believe that the more we know, the better prepared we are for any challenges that life might throw at us, increasing our chances of success and allowing us to share our knowledge, experience and successes with our students so that they too may be successful. I communicate my Professional Knowledge via my lessons and daily practice; striving to use current technologies and tools to optimize student learning, develop new and engaging activities relating to the curriculum, and stay informed on educational pedagogy through research and ongoing professional development. I feel that regular reflection is an essential part of professional knowledge as teachers, as it encourages continual revision of lessons and material in order to meet student’s individual needs. I apply my Professional Practice by participating in regular educational dialogues with colleagues and other like professionals, engaging in ongoing inquiry regarding current information, policies, technology and social practices, and using professional knowledge to inform decisions and design lessons that promote learning and respond to student needs. It is important to remember that we are professionals with a duty to uphold thus should act as such. I understand that I may not always get things exactly right, but continue to give it my all anyways. I am constantly learning and reflecting and trying to better myself as a professional, and a person. I am doing my best to uphold the Teachers Standards of Practice, and stay true to our shared vision as teachers. I am a 21st century teacher.
